It was great to visit with Sheriffs from across our State at the 2023 Annual Business Conference of the NC Sheriffs' Association. It was good to see many friends and introduce myself to many local law enforcement officers across our State. As a state prosecutor, I have enjoyed working with deputies, State Troopers, and municipal police officers. These men and women are true public servants who put their personal safety at risk every day they put on the badge and uniform. The relationship between the legal community and law enforcement should be collaborative with one goal in mind: keep our communities safe.

The 4th of July is a uniquely American holiday. This year, Henry and I started the 4th of July in Rowan County with a parade. The red, white, and blue was on full display with the Rowan County Republican Party in Faith, NC - the place to celebrate the Fourth of July since 1946. As a Veteran, the 4th of July is special to me because it reminds us all we live in the greatest country on earth. Let us cherish our freedoms and not take them for granted.

Late last week, Henry and I travelled down to Morehead City to visit with the Crystal Coast Republican Women at the Carteret County Republican Party headquarters. This women's club is special to me because when I was in law school, I was an intern for then-Representative Jean Preston who represented Carteret County when Republicans were in the minority. The summer I interned with Rep. Preston was when I was looking at serving on my local town council. Rep. Preston was a true public servant, who taught me the value of putting constituents first and standing up for conservative ideals. She was also great at politics and gave me some timeless political advice: (1) Knock on as many doors as possible and don't forget to ask people to vote for you; and (2) Ask your dentist for money Let me pause - My name is Tom Murry. I am running for North Carolina Attorney General. I'm asking for your vote. Secondly - your investment is crucial to our success. Donate online or contributions may be mailed to: Join Tom Murry for NC Attorney General PO Box 1054 Morrisville, NC 27560 Rep. Preston's advice was spot-on and I carry the lessons I learned from her with me every day. Another special connection I have to the Crystal Coast GOP women's club is Ann Martin - the mother of former Chief Justice Mark Martin. Ann is a past president of the CCGOP women's club and worked tirelessly to elect conservatives, especially conservative judges. I was fortunate to get to know Ann when I served as Chief Legal Counsel at the NC Judicial Branch. Carteret County elects Republicans and it was great to get back down east to visit with the hard-working ladies who work the polls to get conservatives into office.

A great crowd of supporters came together at the invitation of Donnie Harrison to financially support Tom's campaign for Attorney General. Tom and Donnie took questions about the state of affairs in law enforcement. It is crucial to put a State prosecutor, attorney, and Army Veteran in the Attorney General's office. Also, your investment is crucial to our success. Donate online or contributions may be mailed to: Join Tom Murry for NC Attorney General PO Box 1054 Morrisville, NC 27560

It is always great to talk with law enforcement who are getting after a public safety problem. Henry and I had a chance to visit with law enforcement from Western North Carolina during the monthly meeting of the WNC DWI task force. This group of volunteers, advocates, victims, and survivors work to keep our roads safe. They participate in advocacy before the NC General Assembly and regularly engage elected officials at all levels. Representative Mike Clampitt (R-Jackson, Swain, Transylvania) regularly attends and was present for this meeting. Rep. Clampitt has endorsed Tom's candidacy for Attorney General. Prior to the meeting, Congressman Chuck Edwards met with the group. His mobile constituent services office was on display as well. Henry gave Chuck a "thumbs up." Many thanks to Ellen Pitt for the invitation and for all she does to protect the public and support law enforcement.

North Carolina’s new voter ID law is the first to be passed since the Supreme Court struck down part of the Voting Rights Act. Starting in 2016, voters will have to present a government-issued photo ID at the polls. Judy Woodruff hears debate from Democratic Rep. G.K. Butterfield and Tom Murry, a Republican state representative.
